The International Pammachon Federation (IPF) is dedicated to the revival and promotion of Pammachon, an ancient combat sport that flourished in the eastern Roman Empire from the 4th to the 6th centuries A.D.
Pammachon has deep historical roots, with organized combat sports in the eastern Mediterranean dating back nearly 4,000 years. Evidence of this can be seen in clay figurines from Crete, dating to 1900 B.C., which depict boxers wearing daggers. Archaeological findings confirm the enduring presence of combat sports in Greece throughout history, with photographic documentation of martial education in the 19th century. As such, these practices are integral to Hellenic culture and the Olympic spirit.
Pammachon features a distinct set of rules that blend combat sport with simulated close combat weapons, often described as a fusion of mixed martial arts (MMA) and fencing. The IPF is committed to reconstructing this ancient art form and adapting it for contemporary practice. The Federation will also have the authority to certify national federations that seek to represent Pammachon within their respective countries' athletic frameworks.
We invite martial artists, historians, and enthusiasts to join us in this significant endeavor to celebrate and preserve the rich heritage of Pammachon. Athletes and sport organizations interested in Pammachon should contact us at info@pammachon.org
